tonymarcussacharias IMPERFECT AESTHETICS
graduation collection 2010 Gerrit Rietveld Academie

Concept

Starting point for this collection is the imperfect human, in which I find beauty.

My concept was based on a reaction to the cosmetic industry.
It encourages us to reach a certain level of perfection by using certain products. Whether it is a creme, Botox or liposuction. No wrinkles, no bags under the eyes, no hair in the wrong places and especially no fat.

In this collection I have concentrated on those parts of the body we want to conceal or alter the most. In my silhouettes I have emphasized those parts. I worked from oversized clothes, literally rolling away the excessive fabric and looking for new forms. This procedure (rolling away fabric) is important and I emphasize this by using clips to secure the roll.

In certain fabrics I used skin-disorders as inspiration, like vitiligo, keloid, albinism and excessive hair grow. In this collection I want to show my fascination for the imperfect human, how I look at people, approach them and often use them as starting point in my work.
